Did you actually believe the satirical news regarding Risa Hontiveros on Joma Sison dying a true hero? Are Pinoys that gullible?

Trending in today's news is the New People's Army (NPA) being tagged as terrorists. Of course, I have been outspoken about this after my first encounter with the terrorist group more than 20 years ago, that the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines and the National Democratic Front (pretty well put because they are just a front) should be labeled as terrorists just like the bandit group Abu Sayaff. That was my thinking 20 years ago and that is still my thinking as of today. When I first heard that Joma Sison would be returning to the Philippines to meet the current President, I was hoping that someone might have the balls to assassinate him. With him gone, the NPA would be in utter disarray. Plus, he's evil- evil people should be eradicated. There is no polite way of saying it.

What caught my attention is the trending story of Senator Risa Hontiveros being called out on publicly addressing high school students with a quote "Prof. Joma Sison will live and die a true hero". Whaaaaaat?! She couldn't possibly have said that. And I was right. She didn't say that. Shame on you Pinoys for thinking with your emotions and not your head.

So I did some digging and I found out that 2 websites pinoyobserver.com and netiviral.com published the story on July 23 of this year. pinoyobserver.com is notorious for spreading fake and satirical news that apparently the unsuspecting Pinoys just gobble up. Armed with some great titles and headings lead to misdirect the public (Pinoys use free data-they only read headlines not the body of the story. That's how far free data will allow them.), the gullible and misinformed public will go on a rampage against the person of interest. pinoyobserver.com has a disclaimer, citing that it is a satirical blog and news website whose mission is to ridicule gullible, ignorant, and arrogant people through sarcasm. Uhm, in short, mga lodi, tinatawanan ka nila dahil paniwalang-paniwala ka sa post nila...mga hunghang. What is really irritating is that their disclaimer defends their right to publish satirical news saying " ...satire is an art and writing satirical stories is totally legal and protected under freedom of speech law". Satire and parody are also protected by fair use law. No wonder malakas ang loob nina Mocha Uson and RJ Nieto to make accusations against the Vice President because all they have to say is that it is satirical news and protected by the freedom of speech law. OK lang...I will quote Taylor Swift again- There's a special place in hell for you... Edited version.

So basically when they did that whole Senate hearing on "Fake News", it was just a front? Because fake news is legal? (To an extent, fake news is legal- just as long as there are no obscenities, invasion of privacy, and defamation.) Just as long as there is a disclaimer attributing to the fact? (A disclaimer may not hold up totally in court but, that's for the court to decide.) Libel? It's a blog- you'll have to determine whether statements were written are opinions (opinions are neither true or false) or defamation if there was no research conducted, and if statements were really false. The good news for political bloggers is that prominent political officials have a much tougher time proving defamation because they have to demonstrate "malice" in the bloggers intent or that the blogger acted in reckless disregard for the truth. Last I checked, the seven senators really didn't sign the resolution- they made their own after they were blatantly excluded. I wonder where the 700,000 pesos (12,000 Euros) that Sassot and Nieto got from the OFWs will go...hmmm..breast implants perhaps?

Mga Pinoy...stop being gullible. The picture of Risa Hontiveros in purple was taken during the Women Defend Democracy Forum which she announced that maternity leave has been extended to 120 days. I swear, they have to stop free data. It's causing more harm than good. I don't care kung ang mga kabataan eh, walang pang FB. Using social media is a privilege and should be used properly. For me, taking away free data will stop the vile, malicious, offensive and inappropriate remarks that these millennials post on social media sites. And I don't have to deal with any of their maligned ignorant and self-righteous thinking posted on my wall.

Ulitin natin ha, Risa Hontiveros didn't say that. Sa mga nag-bash, kakahiya kayo. Eeww. Don't judge a story based on its headlines. Stop being an audience for fake/satirical news sites. React with your head not with your emotions. Mga OFW, stop giving your money to those bloggers, send that money to your family instead or better yet, donate that money to an orphanage. They are clearly using you. Pauto naman kayo.

As of today, pinoyobserver.com domain has expired. On Twitter, there is a handle Pinoy Observer which posts from a site OKD2.com. The post about Risa Hontuveros can be read on pinoybuzzfeed.com and clearly cites that its source is pinoyobserver.com.
netiviral.com is still operational. The post of Hontiveros is still part of their archive. There is a DCMA policy on their site regarding infringement that if they do copy off of you and you demand copyright, you have to pay for everything even lawyer's fees just for copyright infringement against the site and all they will do is bring the material down. Alas, the gray areaa of "fair use". Mga balasubas.

-Bato-bato sa langit, ang tamaan ay wag magagalit.

-The Pinoy Inquisitor will search again.

  1. Pinoy Inquisitor, good job for telling it as it is. I know free FB is needed for the youngsters but, they should limit the amount of times these users can comment. They have been given a free pass as it is-they should use it wisely.
